I recently learned about an Olla. This is a pot that self-waters the garden.
Basically what you'll need is a unglazed clay pot, and a saucer that is just
a bit larger than the top of the pot. This will be used for a cover for the
pot.

Using some cement seal the bottom of the pot covering the inside of the
bottom and the hole in the bottom.

Once that is dry dig a hole in your garden and plant your pot up to just
below the rim. Plant this pot so that it is in the center between the
plants you want to water.

Fill your Olla with water and place the saucer upside-down on top of the pot
as a lid. The Olla will leach water into the ground around it in about a 3
foot radius. The plant roots will start to grow towards the Olla. This is
really useful for not having to water your garden every day.

If you're wanting to learn more about Container Gardening, Hadley has a
class on Container Gardening.
