[NFB-Krafters-Korner] Roses Question

Judy:

I'm not sure where you live, but when I lived in Arkansas I pruned mine in
January or February. When I first moved into the house in AR there were a
couple of tall ones like you are describing. The first time I pruned them,
I took them down almost to the ground. When they came back in the spring I
got a couple of little branches. Each year if it got real tall I would
prune the tall part back to a few inches from where the other branches were
branching out.

Tracy might have better information; I really have little experience with
roses. I prefer to put my energy into eatable things. Lol

Okay. Let me know if I am correct. I wait till all the buds are dead and
leaves withered, right? Then, how close to the ground would I cut them?
These are big tall vertical branches that never bushed out.

You should probably prune them this winter. If it hasn't been done for a
while it effects their health.

Hi Again,

We moved into a new house with sick rosebushes in the back. They produced
leaves, but some of the buds were full buds with the starts of withered
blossoms. The leaves are very few, although lots of branches with thorns.
Any ideas of what may be wrong with them?

Also, how can you tell if your plants have been invaded with fungi or
insects? If you have an unhealthy plant, how can you tell what the real
problem is? Questions from a wanabee gardener hahahaha!
