[NFB-Krafters-Korner] Learning to knit

Hi Ari,
I am Cathy from Ohio. I love to needle knit and I learned how to knit properly from taking classes here at Krafters Korner.
To answer your questions:

The difference between American and European kniting is determined by which hand holds the working yarn. In the American method, you use your dominant hand (right handL) and it the European style you use your left hand and hold the working yarn slipped through the fingers of that hand.

You are using your right hand, so let’s go with that.
1. You put the right-hand needle into the stitch on the left needle.
2. You take the working yarn in your right hand and move it from the back of the needle around to the front and across the front of the needle. You do this clockwise. Hold the working yarn to the right as you complete the next step.
3. Now dip the tip of the right-hand needle point into the space between the left and right needles.
4. You want to put the tip of the right needle into the loop that is joining the needles together.
5. So now you will have the first loop, the working yarn wrap and the loop between the needles all on the tip of the right needle.
6. Tilt the tip of the right needle upward while pulling the loop connecting the needles off of the left needle.
You have created a stitch.

Hope this helps.
Have a wonderful day Cathy F

>> You are knitting in the english method. I am gathering that when you say that you are bringing your working yarn around your right hand needle in a clockwise manner that you are bringing your yarn in front of the needle and then going between the needles to complete the stitch. I learned to bring the working yarn to the back of the right hand needle and continue the stitch as above.
