Ari,
I would not think gage would be important for a scarf.

So, I just got the Knitting in Plain English book, and I'm so confused! I'm having a really hard time following the directions for casting on! Any tips? I just want a simple, no-frills cast on. I plan to use that stitch that was mentioned a couple of messages back, as it sounds like what I was doing before.

Ugh! This is a lot harder than I'd like. I think I finally got the slip knot thing figured out. I'm just really confused by things like back of the work and front of the work, and how to wrap the yarn around whichever needle--and I just want to scream. I think it doesn't help that I didn't learn to cast on before. I think my teacher wanted to make this as fun and accessible as possible. I mean, I don't even remember discussing things like gage.

Which reminds me, for a simple scarm about 6 inches-8 inches wide and about 6 feet long, do I really need to worry about gage?
