Hello all, thank you for your responces, Would it be best for me to buy a kit, or could I buy what I need without buying the kit? Correct me if I'm wrong, which could be likely, but if I was to buy what I needed on my own, could I avoid following a pattern by using all one colour on the canvus, can you buy the canvus where it isn't switching colours? If I don't buy the kit, what stuff will I have to get?

The colors are painted on the canvas so you need to be able to see or have
someone very patient and write down how many color pieces of yarn is in each
row.

I used to do rug hooking.  I enjoyed it.  But that was when I was living
with my family, and had easy access to someone who could tell me how many of
which colors to put where.  In other words, someone to explain the pattern,
and how to make it.
That was long ago, now.  How do the modern patterns come?  Are they charts,
or written?
