Hello again,

I used to latch hook during the early 80's when it was popular. I purchased
a book entitled Row By Row by Ann Porter. Unfortunately, I lost my copy of
the book and it is no longer being published. However, Braille Library &
Transcribing Services has a single copy of this book in braille that one can
borrow. I learned to latch hook by using this book. Instead of having a
canvas with a picture drawn on it. I purchased a plain canvas and precut
yarn in the colors asked for in the pattern I wanted to make. the pattern is
written in rows, beginning at the bottom left of the canvas and each row
builds to picture one row at a time.

I did teach a class on a pattern kit called Flower Pup. it came with a
chart. my sister read me the chart and I wrote it down on my computer so I
would have the pattern. Braille Library & Transcribing Services will also
transcribe a latch hook pattern.

Theresa also taught a class on making a Santa Face.

I would say that the trickiest part of latch hooking for a blind person is
getting the yarn colors sorted in a kit and not mixing up the yarn once it
is sorted. The small yarn pieces are so easily dropped or lost.

But I did enjoy every pattern I made. I would also suggest that latch hook
projects not be used as rugs. They are not sturdy enough for walking on or
animals. I have them hanging all around the walls of my house.

I made one as a gift for a friend.

Have a great day!!

Cathy F
