[Nfb-krafters-korner] Building an insect hotel

I fancy trying to make an insect hotel, which I've heard about on a couple
garden shows. It's a place for solitary bees to lay their eggs. You get
together a bunch of hollow tubes, like straws, big grass stems, maybe lily
stems, then you put them in something that will hold them together with the
ends exposed, so the bees can come along and do their thing. I guess some
people make a box out of scrap wood for the purpose, but my woodworking has
never worked out well.

Has anyone ever made such a thing? I'm just trying to figure out how to
contain my hotel in something that will last outside a year or so. I wonder
if I could tie them together somehow, maybe with twine? Thoughts?
