You take the fabric and lay two pieces (top and bottom) together.  In the Corners you cut out a 5 " square (so 5" x 5").  Start at one square corner cut out and make 1" wide cuts the length you cut your square so 5" long.  You will be cutting the two pieces of fabric at the same time which means you have two strips.  Tie those two strips together.  Continue cutting  and tying strips all the way around the blanket.  Some cut it all first, then go back and tie.  Others cut then tie, cut then tie.  It is up to you.

Will someone please explain how these blankets are made!
I thought you made slits in the ends and tied them together to join blocks.
Why do you need strips?

I asked my husband to cut templates for me to use for cutting away the corners & a template for the strips. That has made the blankets go quicker. They go even quicker since I got a rotary cutter. These are so fun to make!

Tammy, before you scold me, yes, I could have cut them myself, but he won't let me near his table saw! Lol Now,  scold him. Lol

Terry,
The tie blankets do require cutting, but they are straight cuts and you can use a template to help you stay straight or a guide they use in quilting.  When I have helped, one person goes along and does the cutting and the other person comes along and does the tying.

Welcome, Tracy!
A friend of mine introduced Henry and me to our knitting group and our Hearts Ministery group, for helping and getting the handicapped accepted in all churches!
The knitting group makes hats for the homeless, blankets for the men, when they come back from serving their country and Baptism blankets.  We also have done the tie blankets.  Henry and I have not done the tie blankets.  We did not  know if it involved cutting.
Our NFB chapter, in the next county, puts together kits for the homeless.
Why not contribute hand made washcloths to a group like that.
There are many possibilities!

My daughter and I have helped make tie blankets out of fleece.  They were donated to patients who are receiving chemotherapy treatments in the clinics and hospitals.

I have been doing some charity knitting, when I can't think of an exciting project.  It's fun, and nice to be useful.  I've been knitting kids' hats.
The owner of my local yarn store collects the things her customers donate and gives them to services for homeless families.  I have a really easy pattern for a hat that comes out very nice, if I do say so myself, if anyone is interested in a simple hat pattern.

I'm curious if others also create things for charity.  I'd be interested in other projects besides kids' hats.
