Hi Annette.
That's interesting.  I'd heard of the knitted knockers project, and was
interested, as both my sister and I have had a mastectomy.  But there was
some problem with the project in my area. 
That's cool about the cranes.  I used to do origami, but haven't for quite a
while.

Hi Tracy,

For almost a year now, I have been knitting prosthetics for women who have
had mastectomies.  The charity is called Knitted Knockers.  My local yarn
shop was collecting them to send off to the Charity.  Sadly, that yarn shop
has gone out of business.

In addition, since August I have been folding origami cranes for a community
breast cancer awareness project.  I am closing in on 2000 cranes.  The goal
of the project is to make and display 150,000 cranes to represent the
150,000 women with breast cancer in this country.  I think we have 35,000
more cranes to make.  I'm entertaining making another 500-1000, but they
also need help fixing cranes and completing those that have not been
finished by another volunteer.

I have been doing some charity knitting, when I can't think of an exciting
project.  It's fun, and nice to be useful.  I've been knitting kids' hats.
The owner of my local yarn store collects the things her customers donate
and gives them to services for homeless families.  I have a really easy
pattern for a hat that comes out very nice, if I do say so myself, if anyone
is interested in a simple hat pattern.

I'm curious if others also create things for charity.  I'd be interested in
other projects besides kids' hats.
