Thanks Kathy, that's a useful factoid.  I'd guess a grapefruit is about 5
inches?  So then all you need to know is your stitch gauge per inch, and
multiply that by 5.  Hey, useful arithmetic!

How many cast on stiches for a newborn hat? I have been told that the hat
should fit over a grapefruit, however, I do not have a grapefruit. <smile>
