I'm so sorry to read all of this Joyce. I know how John was your rock! What a horrible thing for someone to do and all the families and friends affected by their senseless act. My heart goes out to you.

This is not an easy one at all. Some of you were here and helped me as being friends. This whole time is hard for me to think about. Four years ago in March, my husband, John died suddenly after being married for 42 years. It was numbing and on Memorial Day that year, my sons moved me from my third floor down to the first floor. That first night I had forgotten something up stairs and went up to get it. On my way down I fell down a flight of stairs. I ended up in the hospital with a broken ankle and after surgery I had to go into a Rehab. To stay. I was suppose to go to Convention, but actually I signed myself out of the Rehab Center a week early. I didn't go to Convention as I could not put any weight on to that leg and the week after Convention I finally got into this boot that was a job to get around in. All of this with my feelings turned inside out as John was gone.
It took me a few years to go to the VFW on my own, as he was Second in Command to the VFW 9460 Club and they help me all thru his funeral and their Color Guard stood in uniform along side his coffin.

We had a military salute given at his funeral. We had it done at the funeral home. The military came in and did a ceremony and then went outside and right in the middle of our town on the Green facing the funeral gave their gun salute and most of the people had moved outside where they had a large front porch and they opened all the doors and windows and only my two sons and my daughter and myself was inside. While everyone walked up and bid their farewells I hugged and cried holding onto the flag they gave me while they and everyone went out on the porch for the gun salute.

Memorial Day has always been one of my special days as for not only being involved in our VFW, I coordinated the Girl Scouts to March in the Memorial Day Parade and 2 years back on Memorial Day I sat by the "wall" that they put John's ashes in and just sat and shared my thoughts with him. The following week some crazy went into the cemetery and blew up the "wall" and took 17 of the people's ashes and urns and stoled them. They latterly blew it up and no one heard or noticed it until the people in charge came in the morning.

The horrible part of this when they finely found who was involved they basically told us these people were using the ashes for some type of ceremony. They found pictures that people had put of the family into the wall space. Litterly I have nothing left of John, not even a place to touch his name and know my ashes will be with his.

Joyce

Well,

My mom passed on several years ago, and, to tie this to crafts, she was the one who taught me the most. When I was young, I sometimes enlisted her help on invention projects. I’m not sure if she enjoyed any of them, but I do remember her reluctance on at least one of them, which I’ll describe in another message. When my oldest sister wasn’t around, Mom was my best friend.
