Cindy,
I can hear the hurt in your email.  I am sorry that you feel unappreciated.  You have done a lot for the division.  But might I suggest Joyce has also.  I know that there has been hard feelings both ways on this front.  As far as the leadership requirement in the constitution, I believe Ramona and possibly Mrs. Mauer help to draft the constitution.  Just as in the issue of voting for officers, this sort of change would have to be approved through President Ricabono.  If this group was only a crafting group, my feelings would be let whom ever be president, but I do believe that there should be blind individuals running a blindness group.  This is just my feelings.  You have done a great job with classes.  I and many others on the list have learned to make loads of cute and fun crafts from you.  You are sharing your eyes with us, that is a precious gift.  Each of us at one time or another have wished we could have someone describe a photo or craft that was not accessible.  You have done that for us.  You are appreciated, you are needed to make our group what it is.  Your ideas are valued, your diligence is needed.  Sometimes serving is not easy.  Lots of times it comes without any thanks.  It often comes with disagreements and friction.  What we all should decide, myself included, are we serving the membership body to make this a great place to craft? Or are we wanting to serve to feel important? Or Do we want to serve as a board member because we like the other people on the board?  Can we serve on the board if we don't like someone on the board?  These are questions I have asked myself.  To my knowledge, none of us are perfect, but just like our representatives in congress, we should be acting on the best interest of the folks we serve.  
If I am not elected, I will still want to participate.  I hope you will support Joyce if she wins, and I promise to support Tammy if she wins.  Both of these ladies are good people.

Ramona,
I was asked in e-mail if I wanted to continue as Treasurer.  What I said was, I did not want to continue as Treasurer with the current leadership that was in place.  It has been too stressful this past year and I for one do not want things to continue the way they have been.  I enjoy crafting and I enjoy teaching crafts to others, but it should be FUN!!!  

With that said, I considered running for 1st V.P.  Knowing that being sighted, I could not be President of the group.  I was quickly told that I could not only NOT be President, I could not be 1st V.P. or 2nd V.P.  just because I am sighted and that is how the by-laws are stated.  I truly do understand not being President of a blind group, but not being allowed to be either V.P. was a little much.  So for me, that leaves Treasurer, Secretary and two Board Member positions.  

I have served this group well for over 6 years as Treasurer and the entire 10 years as a member teaching and learning from everyone.

I would love to continue on the Board of Krafters Division.  I had decided to run for Secretary, but again was waiting to see what the leadership looked like.  I was not able to make the Monday chat of slated officers and when the list came out, my name was left off.  Not anyone's fault, well...maybe my own, but I wanted to see if leadership was going to change before I committed or at least put myself up for another year or two of serving.  

As for elections.  Since my name is not on the slate, I guess I will need to be nominated from the floor.  I have heard through the grape vine that Joyce is planning on doing elections from the ground up, which will put some great leaders out of positions if they are waiting for the position they are actually trying for.  

It is no secret that I am supporting Tammy for President.  I want Krafters Division and Krafters Korner to be fun again.  I want to enjoy teaching and learning from all of you.  I want my voice to be heard when I have an idea or suggestion.  I do not want to fear opening an e-mail from anyone on this list or group.  I want to be respected and appreciated.  It is okay to lean on me from time to time, and me to lean on you now and again, but things have gotten out of hand!

Votes cast at convention are what counts to elect officers.  If those voting wish to be influenced by the results of the survey, they can take that into consideration.  If they don't want to be influenced by the survey, there is no requirement or gentlemen's agreement that they should be.  In the case of this survey, It is confusing to me to know whether it is a nominating committee recommendation or something else.  Members were asked some time ago who wanted to run for office, but not everything happens on this list, so I am somewhat at a loss to know exactly how these names got on the survey and whether there may be others who may be interested in serving in an office. Since I have not been able to attend the chats where people running could explain what they wish to accomplish if elected, I hope to learn that at convention whether directly from the candidates or from others who have talked with  the candidates.    .

Thanks for your answer.  This still leaves me a bit confused.  How is general opinion applied in an election?  With past experience, officers are elected by members present at the convention.  

I’m not trying to create a problem, I just am interested in how things work.

Their survey is for the purpose of knowing what the membership body wants. It is not a formal vote but gives those of us who were going to convention an idea of whom they would like for each office.
