This is good to know Dixie.  I had no idea why the link was not sent out on the list.  Makes sense now, but when a member told me that they did not get the survey, I just sent it out in case others did not too.

As the chair of the Nominating Committee I can answer this supposition.

A message was sent out to the email list asking for folks to contact me if they were interested in running for a position.

I also sent personal emails to all the individuals currently holding the positions up for re-election inquiring if that individual wanted to run for the position again.

If an individual said that she would only run if this person or that person was or was not in a particular seat then that individual was not included on the slate of candidates.  I cannot predict who will or will not win an election.  A candidate has to be able to work with whomever is on the board and not only the ones he or she wants to work with.

I have copies of all of the responses from the candidates.

After the appointed time for folks to submit their names for candidacy,  I sent the message to the list of the positions that had candidates.  There were a few positions in which we had no candidates.

After that message a few of us stepped up to offer our service instead of having no candidates for positions.

If anyone would need proof of what the present board members replied to me, I will be glad to send that off list.

I don't believe that everything be public here as this is a public list and not a members only list.

Hence the reason I sent the survey link to the members individually as opposed to putting it out here for the whole world.

The hope was to get a true opinion of the paid membership.

Votes cast at convention are what counts to elect officers.  If those voting wish to be influenced by the results of the survey, they can take that into consideration.  If they don't want to be influenced by the survey, there is no requirement or gentlemen's agreement that they should be.  In the case of this survey, It is confusing to me to know whether it is a nominating committee recommendation or something else.  Members were asked some time ago who wanted to run for office, but not everything happens on this list, so I am somewhat at a loss to know exactly how these names got on the survey and whether there may be others who may be interested in serving in an office. Since I have not been able to attend the chats where people running could explain what they wish to accomplish if elected, I hope to learn that at convention whether directly from the candidates or from others who have talked with  the candidates.    .

Jill,
Thanks for your answer.  This still leaves me a bit confused.  How is general opinion applied in an election?  With past experience, officers are elected by members present at the convention.  

I’m not trying to create a problem, I just am interested in how things work.

Their survey is for the purpose of knowing what the membership body wants. It is not a formal vote but gives those of us who were going to convention an idea of whom they would like for each office.
