I have grown birdhouse gourds a few times.  Those are the big, bottle-shaped guys.
I bought a paddle drill bit that the guy at the hardware store said was the right thing to cut a bird hole, but it went wild when I tried to use it and tore my gourd to bits.  Clearly not the tool for me.  I'd be interested to hear about what are the tools others have used to cut a decent hole in a gourd.

No, I did not plant gourds this year.  I have more than sixty ready to be sanded and cut.  Just need to get some more time.  I sanded the first one, and it looks nice.  I bought a drummel, but haven't had a chance to try it yet.  Keep thinking things will slow down, but it may be August. I am still deciding how much color to use and how to do it. Anybody have some
experience?

I am always knitting at least one project.  This summer I hope to get something made from some of my gourds.

Maybe you can take up making folded paper fans.  Grin!

Oh, yeah, I have done crafts with many children.  What a blast!  They are so fun and imaginative.

I crochet all year long.  Summer is a good time for smaller crochet projects or making parts to a blanket.  Grin!  I do appreciate my air conditioner.

Hello everyone:

I want to apologize about not sending out a want to know Wednesday question last week.  As you know my life has been pretty much upside down the last couple of months.  I promise to be more punctual from now on.

So, here is my very late question.

Do you all do different types of crafts in the summer?

I am finding myself not very interested in knitting during the hot Arizona summer.  Lately the only craft I've been doing is play dough!  My roommate has a 4 year old daughter who has allowed me to make things with her.  She told me my coloring is bad, but my clay is good. Lol

Do any of the rest of you craft with small children?

Do you have any special summer projects?

Please share with us; we want to hear about particular summer crafting projects.

As usual I look forward to reading your responses.
