I've done quite a few latch hook hangings. One of course is a large
lighthouse.

Besides the canvus, there is a printed sheet with symbols representing each
color in a diagram. Again you would need a patient sighted person to help
you write out a pattern. It is much like doing a knitting pattern. Sport of
like, 6y 4b 10g, or whatever letter you use for each color. 

I always have someone start dictating from the bottom left corner. Someone
also will need to tell you which bar to start with, because it should be
folded up.

The colors are painted on the canvas so you need to be able to see or have
someone very patient and write down how many color pieces of yarn is in each
row.

I used to do rug hooking.  I enjoyed it.  But that was when I was living
with my family, and had easy access to someone who could tell me how many of
which colors to put where.  In other words, someone to explain the pattern,
and how to make it.
That was long ago, now.  How do the modern patterns come?  Are they charts,
or written?
