That is a great story Jill.
Yesterday I just couldn't think of any crafts that Alyssa had made for me,
but after reading your e-mail I remembered a bouquet of flowers made out of
paper cupcake liners. Each liner was a flower that could be "picked" that
had a special chore the child could do for you on it. I know it took her
some thinking about what chores she would do without complaining. Come to
think of it, I still have some flowers on that bouquet. *evil grin " Oh
Alyssa...."

What is your favorite hand crafted gift made by your child?
Well I have 3 children so I must pick 3 items. Olivia made a sweet Mother's
day card last year at school. It asked questions and she had to reply with
the answers she thought were correct about her Mom. She said that I was 16
ft tall, weighed 80 lbs and was 56 years old. Lucas made a wall hanging for
me with his hand prints in a circle which looked like a wreath. John made
me a wooden nativity set for my yard out of wood.
What type of things have you made for your mother?
My mother died in 1991, I was 21 at that time. I made her lots of drawings
as a child. I loved to draw and color when I was little. I made her a
stuffed fabric Christmas tree when I was in 8th grade. I still make things
for my mother. I make silk flower arrangements for my parents grave.
Did your mother teach you a craft and if so what was it?
My Mama was a wonderful seamstress. She taught me to sew. I wished I had
learned more. She also taught me to do simple hand embroidery and cross
stitch when I could see.
Do you and your mother craft together and if so what kind of projects do you
enjoy sharing?
I can not craft with her, but I do craft with my 2 younger children. Olivia
and I make pony bead projects, loom knitting, and vacation Bible school
crafts. Lucas used to help me with safety pin beading projects when Ken and
Theresa taught classes.
What words of wisdom would you most want to share with your child?
Most important of all, I want my children to know that God loves them and
that Jesus died so that they could have eternal life. I want them to treat
people with love and kindness. I want them to share these gifts with
everyone they meet. I want my children to know how much I love them!
What would you like to say or do for your mother to express your love?
I would love to one day be able to organize a cancer charity fund raiser in
honor of my mother. Evem if it was collecting chemo hats for patients.
Also if you like, please describe a memorable moment that you shared with
your mother or with your child.
I remember when my mother and I first found out that I was going blind. We
both were so upset and uncertain about what the future would hold for me. I
was 16 and had just been told by the retina specialist of my prognosis. We
left the doctors office and wanted to stop at McDonald's for a burger . We
went through the drive through and we both had been crying and my eyes were
dialated big as my head. My mother ordered the burgers and the girl on the
speaker said " I am sorry Mam, but we only sell chicken"! My mother had
driven into the KFC which was next to the Mc Donald's. That was the first
time I remember laughing about being blind, I told Mama, I thought I was the
one going blind! We both had a good laugh through our tears.
