Bernice:

I love the description of children holding hands.

Like you my Mom and I didn't do well with her teaching me to crochet.

What is your favorite hand crafted gift made by your child?

I have a pinch pot Heather made me with safetypins and color labels for
clothing in it. Also, she made a stuffed cat in highschool and it lives on
my headboard. She also made a popsicle stick box I also use on my dresser.
My favorite thing though is a drawing she did in first grade. They were told
to draw something about friendship. She drew children in a line holding
hands. She won runner up in a PTA art contest. The judges commented that it
was really unusual, because before coloring her picture, she colored the
whole page with a crayon. Then she colored on top of that. She said they
chose her picture because she was legally blind. We had to assure her that
the judges didn't know who drew what picture.

What type of things have you made for your mother?
I made my Mom a knitted cape, one of my best efforts. I made her a record
when I was in kindergarden singing "Little ducky doddle".

Did your mother teach you a craft and if so what was it?
She tried to teach me how to crochet, but we just got aggravated at each
other. She did teach me many stitches to do on plastic grid. One day when I
was visiting her in Florida she said, "I don't think you could make a
picture with plastic grid". She knew that would hook me to say, "Of course I
can." That was a beginning of her dictating plastic grid and latch hook
picture patterns to me so I could braille them. She also taught me how to
make a lacey beaded necklace, but I no longer know how to do it. Also, one
Christmas, She taught me how to make a greeting card out of plastic grid
decorated with beads.

Do you and your mother craft together and if so what kind of projects do you
enjoy sharing?
My Mom passed away in 2014, but I certainly think a great deal about her
when doing the crafts she taught me.

What words of wisdom would you most want to share with your child?
Heather makes up her own plastic grid patterns. They are striking and
beautiful. She almost never finishes one. The ones she has finished I have
asked her to take pictures and to write the patterns down. So, please,
please finish your beautiful craft projects, Heather.

Bernice and the adorable LoLo.

What would you like to say or do for your mother to express your love?

Also if you like, please describe a memorable moment that you shared with
your mother or with your child.

I'm really looking forward to reading the responses I sure wish Joyce's Mom
would share with us; she must have so much wisdom.

Nella
