I finally found the link, hidden at the bottom. I got kicked out multiple times. Looks like some useful imfo, for the future.
It’s a shame they only want crocheted hats!
That is just not my cup of tea, yet!

Soldier hats

A local friend has asked me to put the word out for her. She is collecting hats for a troop of soldiers and needs 150 beanie style hats. The military requires dark colors - green, blue, black, or brown. Hats also have to be 100% WOOL. The yarn I've used in the past is Patons Classic Wool in chestnut brown, black or deep olive.
These are the measurements for these hats.

I have several patterns at Crochet Cabana that would work but any plain, no frills pattern will do. I also have these patterns at Ravelry if you want to save them. Although they're written for soldiers (adult men mostly), they are simple beanie hats you can use for anyone. Just adjust size to fit. Note that they are written for Patons Classic Wool worsted which is a thin worsted yarn so if you use a thicker yarn, you'll have to adjust the pattern to size.
Special note: Please, when joining yarn, do NOT knot and cut at the knot or leave just an inch of yarn. Please cut yarn several inches from the end and weave/sew the tails in securely. Also, if you work in a spiral, please make sure that your last round is even with the previous round. Thanks!
I don't yet have an address or deadline but in the past the hats were sent in November. I will update when I get the deadline and address. In the meantime, you can send them to me (message me for the address crochetcabana at gmail.com ) and I will forward to Donna Guice, the coordinator of this effort. The hats will go to a troop from Louisiana.
Thanks!
Happy Crocheting!
Sandie
