[NFB-Krafters-Korner] Yarn winders

Hi Becky.
The swift is wood with string, yes. To me, it looks like a fat closed
umbrella, until I open it up. I think it's very clever, the way it works.
The winder I have is mostly plastic, with a metal piece that holds the yarn
and guides it onto the winder.

Tracy, yours sounds like the one I have. Is the winder mainly metal? Is the
swift wooden pieces with rope holding them together?

The swift you use to wind hanks of yarn. You get the twists out of the hank
and then take the large circle it makes and roll it onto the swift. Then you
feed the end onto the winder.

I bought a yarn swift from knitpicks.com. It's a totally manual
yarn-winder. I always have to monkey with it a bit to get it started right,
but it works well.
It consists of 2 pieces--the big wooden part that opens up to hold the skein
to be wound, and the winder part that holds the wound skein and has a crank
to do the winding.
I forget if they were listed as separate things on knitpicks or not.

Hi all,

Do any of you use a yarn winder and if so which one?

Thanks.
