I am not 100% sure, but can't one purchase NLS Cartridges. In doing a Google
search of where to purchase NLS book player Cartridges  I found a page on
NLS that directs one where you can purchase Cartridges and cables.  The
website is

als/cartridges-cables-for-bard/. If your knitting friend has a NLS book
player you could purchase  Cartridges and then you could load your patterns
onto the Cartridge and then mail the Cartridge to her.
