To answer your question regarding labeling thread and organizing  the thread:

Amazon has the best thing going and it is not expensive.  If you would like send me off list and I will either send you a link or give you the name for it   It is put out by  Creative not sure if is with or without Krafts at the end
  It is a plastic see thru case.  It will hold a total of 48 spools of thread.  It has two sides and a closure on both sides.  There is 24 plastic containers on each side.  It has a sturdy handle.  They sell them on Amazon.  I have gotten them on sale for as low as $8.99 with free shipping.  Last time I ordered was last month and I paid around$12 for them.    I am a Prime member and I get 2 day delivery free.

For labeling them I have purchased these plastic  [they are like tags] that have a permanent hole in them which I put a rubber band thru and label with my Pen Friend that stays stuck to the tag and wrap the rubber band around the spool.

I use an embroidery machine and I have over 800 spools of thread and counting..  I label not only the color number of the thread, but the color name.

I need to order a couple more of these boxes as I have gotten a shipment of thread and have 25 spools to put in numerical order.
