Well thanks to someone who mentioned it. I measured the metal needles that I had with me when flying and they were longer then 4 inches. I had picked them up while I was away to have something to keep my hands busy. I never had any trouble traveling with my Denice needles. They are made out of a plastic and they do not stress my hands in any way when knitting.

You should not have trouble with knitting needles of any kind on airlines. Even right after 9-11 they were allowed. I have done knitting on both domestic and international flights. Sometimes flight attendants admire what I am doing, but never have objected. I like to take the circular needles so I don't worry about bothering my seatmates. Wish the cane was accepted as well.
