I guess you could put plastic canvas in that field!
You are doing it on a plastic grid, instead of fabric.  Needle point and
cross stitch are other related crafts.
I do plastic canvas, like a few others, in the group.
On my own, I have found, using different textures of yarn and cord, can make
the item tactual, for the blind.

They all do, but I like crewel, which is done with thin yarn, so stands out
very well.  I had a book on it when I was a kid, but can't find anything on
it now on BARD.
