I found it on Ravelry, as Log Cabin Mitts.

Hi Tracy, where did you find this pattern? I'd like to try it out, I have
heard of the Log Cabin pattern before, but, could never find out much more
about it.
Thanks

Subject: [NFB-Krafters-Korner] Log Cabin knitting technique

I heard about a thing in knitting a while back called "log cabin". It
sounded interesting, and now I have a pattern for fingerless mitts using the
log cabin technique.

It goes like this:

Cast on 7 stitches. Knit 7 garter ridges, so you have a little square.
Bind off.

Turn the square 90 degrees clockwise and pick up stitches along the edge.
Knit another 7 garter ridges.

It goes on like that, knitting and turning. You get a middle square, with
rows going one way, surrounded by other rows going at 90 degrees to it, and
places where they meet up and cross, like the logs on the corners of a log
cabin.

And, at least in my mitts pattern, I change colors at every turn. It's a
fun way to use up some balls of yarn that aren't enough for a project by
themselves.

And, the balls I have are all slightly different textures, which makes it
even more interesting.

Just thought I'd share.

Tracy
