I think you mean the U stitch.  It is the same as the flat, but a bit looser.
U stitch, make a U around the peg and lift bottom loop over
Flat knit, place working yarn infrunt of peg and lift bottom loop over.

Good info, thanks for sharing.

I happen to like to use the half stitch whenever a flat stitch is asked for in a pattern. This is basically the flat stitch, but with the addition of bringing the yarn around the side of the peg, and then knitting over. It is not as tight as the flat knit stitch and looks the same as flat knit.
I know that you likely remember this Terry, I   am mentioning it for those who   may not know.
