Greetings all,
I posted this on the Krafter's Korner Facebook group, but thought I would share this here as well for the benefit of any members who don't use or frequent Facebook. Here's what I wrote.
Hi all. I'm not new to this group by any means, but I have been very quiet up to this point. Last year was full of many great things—teaching blind orphans in China for 3 months, interning at the Colorado Center for the Blind for the summer as a tech instructor and apartment counselor, going to NFB convention for the first time—so many things. This year has been full of changes too, the biggest being that I moved to a new town and now live with my grandparents. My guide dog Gravity loves having her own backyard, and now that things have settled down again and I have access to my art supplies, I'm loving the idea of getting back into crafting. I know how to knit a bit. At least... I can cast on, do the knit stitch and bind off, but I never mastered purling and I really want to learn. I sort of understand how to crochet, but I don't think I'm doing it quite right because my attempts don't look the way I've seen when feeling a blanket someone else has made, so I'd love to learn that too. I'm interested in learning many different crafts. I myself am a ceramic artist and have made everything from sculptures, dishes, mosaics, and love using the wheel—though it's been ages since I had access to one. I have also done some drawing and painting, and my most successful one is both tactile and visual. I know a bit of origami, and have dabbled in polymer clay but would like to learn more. The same for sewing. I know how to sew 2 bits of fabric together to make a little rice pillow, but that's about it. . Sorry this post is so long, but I look forward to meeting new people here now that I hope to be a more active member. Also, I am totally, blind, have been since birth.
I hope everyone has a good evening.
Best,
Valerie
