> This is the second class in the series of adaptive sewing & fabric
crafting techniques. Make your own 13-inch fleece pillow by lacing together
two 13-inch fleece squares with a ribbon and plastic needle.  Simply lace
the ribbon through tactile bordered holes around the three sides of the
pillow case, insert the pillow form (included in kit), then lace up the
fourth side of the pillow case and tie knots or bows in the four corners to
complete!  

> Skills needed:

> Skill level:

> This project is a simple complexity project which just requires simple
lacing activity.  A more advanced stitch will be taught during this class
which will require an extra set of laces.  These are $1.00 for 4 laces.

Supply list: If you would like to order a Mitsy Kit Hot Pad kit, it is on
sale for $8.00 plus shipping; contents include the following:

- one ten inch cotton face square in your choice of 4 pattern options

- one 13 inch square with solid color for backing and faux binding  

- one 10 inch thermal batting square

- safety pins and plastic clips for assembly

 

The four pattern options include the following:

1) Coffee, Esspresso Hot Pad in off white with pictures of coffee cups,
coffee beans, and text descriptions in brown, black and red.  Paired with
black backing and faux binding.

2) Floral Hot Pad in light gray with pictures of large white, yellow, red
and navy flowers and white butterflies.  Paired with navy blue backing and
faux binding.

3) Kitchen Collander Hot Pad in light green with red and turquoise
collanders filled with canning jars, recipe cards, wooden spoons and
tomatoes and onions.  Paired with red backing and faux binding.

4) Hot Chili Pepper Hot Pad in black with red, green, yellow and orange hot
peppers.  Paired with red backing and faux binding.

 

You will need to supply your own needle and thread, or you can purchase our
sewing tool kits separately if needed.  Please have a container handy to
put small clips into, a pin cushion, and a thimble may be helpful.  It
could also be helpful to have a tray to work on to help contain any
needles, pins or clips that might be dropped while sewing.

Supplies and preparation instructions if not buying Mitsy kit:

- one 10 inch cotton square in a color and pattern of choice.  This will be
the primary pattern viewed on the hot pad.

- one 13 inch cotton square with solid color for backing and faux binding
(it should be a color to coordinate with the 10 inch cotton square)

- one 10 inch thermal batting square (I like to use Insul-Brite.  This is
not just regular quilt batting.  Whatever brand you buy, you need to make
sure it is made to insulate from heat.)

- plastic clips and or straight pins for assembly.
