[NFB-Krafters-Korner] Doilies

[Dixie]

I love my crocheted lace doilies and table runners. I have them on my
dresser, and on my side tables.  I also have the antimacassers on the arms
of the chairs and the back of the chair.  

I get mine from either E-bay or Etsy.  It is unbelievable how affordable the
price is for all of that lovely hand work.  It is much too fine work for me
to make.

I don't starch mine, just wash and iron between damp towels.

Don't they also need special care and starching?
I remember seeing them all over my Grandparents and Aunts homes.

Unfortunately, they are probably a thing of the past.  I know both of my
Grandmothers had them.  They are pretty and I am totally amazed at the time
and skill it took to make them. If I had to work with that tiny thread, I
would not be a crocheter. For me, doilies are the dinosaurs of yarn craft.

I have crochet books with patterns for doilies in them, which sound pretty,
but I've never made one.  They don't seem practical-more like things my
grandma had in her house, which was much neater than mine.  But is that
true?  Does anyone here make doilies?  Are they useful?
