Just another idea here:  when I used to take classes from a knitting store,
the cost was 25 to 35 dollars, maybe more now.  Not only that, but we had to
purchase our materials from the store, plus the pattern.  I loved those
classes so much; granted, it was in the store, and you got to know some of
the students, but it wasn't cheap--especially if it were for a sweater or
something.

I personally do not think that dues are astronomical.  As for other chapters
and divisions, each entity determines their own dues.  I happen to know that
there are chapters which have the same dues as Krafters Division.  I was a
member  of the Huntsville Alabama rocket city chapter before becoming the At
Large chapter president for Alabama and the dues were $20.  I believe the
greater issue for some folks is paying to take classes.  No one is being
paid for teaching.  We have set aside at least $1500 each year and sometimes
more to help individuals to go to convention.  We donate to the Jernigan
fund each year.  We are paying $150 per year for a zoom account.  We are
paying for the cost of owning the domain name for the organization.  No one
is getting wealthy off of dues.  We have not set dues up to be a fund
raiser, but because of Cathy and others who volunteer their time to manage
the website , we currently have been able to save the money that used to go
to pay for web site manag  ement.  We currently have 90 paid members.  If
there is truly so many people who can not afford to pay dues why are they
not speaking up or contacting Tammy or Joyce.  I have been a member since
2012 and no one has been turned away for not being able to pay dues.  Those
who are concerned should bring up this topic at a board/ membership meeting
for consideration.
Reach out to Tammy to have this on the agenda of her next meeting that she
schedules.  
As in life we choose to make arrangements for things which bring us joy.
This division has brought me much joy for many years, therefore I will pay
my dues because it is important to me.
