Yes even with flat pieces they will stay flat because they are not connected
at the two ends to form a continuous circle.  The beauty of it is you can
fold it up when putting it into a bag.  When you take it out you just unfold
and start looming away.

They fit together kind of like those pop-it beads we played with when we
were kids. I was a bit thrown off by the fact they kind of change shape
while making something, but Terry assures me that the piece will still come
out round. I don't know about flat pieces yet, but I bet the ridged pieces
would be great for that. I'm getting used to mine.
