Hello Fellow Cro Hookers,

I figured out how to make wide cro hook items with even the shortest of cro
hooks. Below is a snap shot that assumes you know how to cro hook.

If making for example an item that is 90 stitches wide:
1. Load your hook with some stitches, i.e. 15 of the 90 stitches.
2. Turn your work and work off some of those stitches, i.e. 10 stitches.
In this case, 5 stitches remain on the hook. You can leave 2 or 3 stitches
on the hook if you want, but I find 4-5 stitches makes the process a little
easier.
3. Turn your work and pick up more stitches, i.e. 15 stitches, so you now
have 20 stitches on your hook.
4. Work off some stitches, i.e. 15 stitches, leaving 5 stitches on the
hook.
5. Turn your work and load more stitches, i.e. 15 stitches, so now you have
20 stitches on your hook.
6. Turn your work and work off some stitches, i.e. 15 stitches, so now you
have 5 stitches remaining on your hook.
7. continue loading and working off stitches until you get to the end. Then
turn your work and repeat the above steps.

Something to keep in mind is that you have to be pretty good at keeping your
stitch count accurate. At no time will you have all stitches loaded at once
so that you can recount them and make sure it is right. You can load and
work off as many stitches as you are comfortable with or that your hook will
accommodate. If you have trouble with keeping your stitch count correct,
then use a cro hook that has the interchangeable cable. It is so much
easier than using a really long cro hook.

HTH,
Annette

Hi,

Terry, you are correct, the interchangeable crochet hooks can work since you
can put a crochet hook at both ends of the cable to make it a cro hook.

Tracy, the crochet hook with a cable on the end with a stopper or end-cap is
a Tunisian knitting needle. If there is nothing at the end of the cable, it
is some other technique that is again a combination of knitting and
crocheting. I cannot remember the name. I have a small set of them, but
could not put my hands on them just now to find out the name.

There is a way to work your way across a large item while only working a
group of stitches at a time. I've found a few YouTube videos but they are
not doing a good job of describing it. I am 95% sure someone on this list
knows how to do this. The benefit is that you do not have to fight with a
really long cro hook packed with stitches. You can use whatever size hook
you have.

Thanks,
Annette

My mom had a crochet hook with a long cable attached. Maybe that's how it's
done?

Annette, how wonderful to hear from you, hugs. Super congradulations to a
super lady.

Maybe instead of loading the stitches you hang them somehow. Boy I would
like to know also how to do that technique, puzzled look.

As an adult, I made my first crochet sweater and stil working on, lol, a
stuffed Kuma Bear.

I am in a wheelchair now. I didn't think I would be this young, as I knew it
was coming. But hey God is good all the time. I just need to catch up with
His plan, smile.

Hello All,

Yes, it has been years since I have posted. Every once in a while I take a
peek at what is happening here on the list, but life has been so hectic I
barely have time for crafting. In a nutshell, NFB takes up a lot of my
time, but my job is very time consuming. After being a Reasonable
Accommodations Specialist for a Federal Agency for many years, I became the
acting Disability Program manager for 18 months, and was hired by another
Federal agency as their Disability Program Manager shortly after the start
of the pandemic. It has been very odd to have a job where I have never met
my co-workers in person. Now on to why I am posting.

Many, Many years ago, I learned how to Cro Hook from one of Becky's classes.
She was such a good teacher I taught the class several years later. At some
point, Becky or someone else shared directions on how to cro hook a large
item without having to load your needle with all of the stitches. I'm
hoping someone can refresh my memory on how to do this.

Thanks, and Happy Holidays!

Annette
