[NFB-Krafters-Korner] Fixing hole in fabric

Good Morning Tracy, oh no, we hope that you weren't hurt in your fall.
I don't know too much about repairing holes in clothing except to take it to
a taylors if I can't find someone talented enough to fix it.
Hey, I am a guy, and can barely sew on a button.
Is this an idea for a future sewing class? Repairing tiny rips 101?

Yesterday I managed to fall down and get a tiny hole in my brand-new pants.
Today, I fixed the hole using a whip stitch, but that created a small rumple
bigger than the original hole.  

I'm wondering if I shouldn't cut the knots and let the thread pull out,
giving me back the tiny hole. 

Is there a better way to fix a small hole than whip stitch?  Maybe it would
be better to wait until the hole gets bigger before trying to fix it?  Maybe
the fix is worse than the actual hole?
