[NFB-Krafters-Korner] Yarn description

It is a thick yarn, but I think in each category there are different thicknesses. For example, I have worsted weight 3 and 4 yarns. I'm looking for the info that was sent to the list describing the different types. Someone else may find it before me.

I know about worsted weight and cotton. Is chunky a specific type of thickness or does it describe a wide range of yarns that are very thick?

I am sure someone will send yarn classifications as soon as they see you need it, but after reading it, you might want to go to a craft store and feel each type. I almost always use 4 ply worsted weight yarn, and what is called D K yarn was really hard for me to get used to. D K yarn is rather thin, but not the thinnest. Finally I conquered when I made a baby set for someone at my work. Cotton yarn is great for dishcloths, pot holders, and placemats. I made my daughter a scarf, and the yarn was a combination of alpaca and bamboo, and it is wonderfully soft. It cost me about $50. So there are many combinations of materials to make up different yarns.

Just wanted you to know you’re not the only one who came to knitting late in life. I never had anyone around either. The one person who tried to teach me about 20 years ago didn’t have as much patience if she needed to help me out. It didn’t help that I wasn’t told to use chunky yarn to start with.

Good luck do you and it’s nice to know there’s someone else who isn’t an expert. Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one
