Some words from an experienced craft person:

You need to first decide what type of crafts you really, really like &
enjoy doing. You need to practice and practice so what ever you decide to
make is made well. Then if you need equipment, tools or supplies you need
to do research on getting them, if needed learn how to use them and find out
retail and wholesale prices on your supplies,. You also then need to do
research on where and how to sell your products. If you are going to ship
them you need to consider if you will need mailers or boxes and consider the
pricing into your expenses.

Now after all that you need to determine how much it costs to make one and
how much it will cost to mail or ship it. You need to keep in mind people
may not like the colors you do or the material you are using, so I don't
advise you purchasing supplies in bulk.

Putting prices on your items are the hardest thing to do and deciding if you
want to do this as a business or a hobby is a question only you can answer.

So if you want to do this as a job and seriously consider this as a business
make up some items and see what others think about what you are doing..
Please listen to all comments and consider other's suggestions.

The biggest thing is to make something unique, well handcrafted, well
packaged with a price that people will be able to afford and that you feel
is worth the time it took to make it.

I have been selling my handmade crafts for 60 years and some things I made
good profit on and others I loved making them.

So you need to think all of this out and come up with some ideas and take a
chance. When I was sighted I loved doing out door craft fairs. You could
sit outside and enjoy the weather and collect thousands of comments, and
ideas and if people liked your work you could go home with some cash in your
pockets, but today the craft fairs are few and far between.

Good luck in your venture.,

Subject: [NFB-Krafters-Korner] Making crafts to sell

Hello,
Those of you who have businesses selling your handmade items what were some
of the items you started selling first? I am strongly considering starting
my own business selling my handmade items but not sure what items to make
and sell first. I am good at sewing, and knitting and willing to learn other
crafts as well.
