Hi Bernice.  
That sounds possible, 41 stitches in bulky, in k1 p1 rib.
Give it a try.  The thing with the good old stocking hat is that it will
always fit someone.  Ribbing is very stretchy, and everyone can use a nice
stocking hat.

I can look through my patterns, but I don't think I have one specifically
for bulky yarn.  There are also many free stocking hat patterns on the
Internet.

Can anybody tell me a simple stocking hat patter using needles equivalent to
the one on the loom? If I used bulky yarn on 41 pegs on a loom, would I cast
on 41 stitches and to a k1, p1, rib for the hat?

I really knit with needles so much faster, and I would like to make a
matching stocking hat to my scarf for the reservation.
