[NFB-Krafters-Korner] Is it a darning needle or a toothpick?

Hi, Henry,

I actually have joined that group, I think. I also bought a loom, but I don't really like it. Maybe it's just an esthetic thing, but the KB looms have oddly-shaped pegs compared to the Loops and Threads brand. The KB pegs are oddly sort of squared off on the sides, where as the Loops and Threads looms have pegs that are nice and silindrical, with a nice top which is round like a ball. :)

I really need to pay my KK dues and start learning to knit. I'd also like to learn crocheting, which sounds like a lot of fun. Also that macramé class sounds really neat. I've always been into knotting and plaiting stuff as a kid. I've just been on the job hunt lately, and can't really afford to go buying supplies and stuff. Maybe finances will be a little more settled in the next couple of months and I can take things back up again. Getting hit with a $300 gas bill is not my idea of fun. :) Thanks for reaching out, though. I guess I just got kind of discouraged with how awful things were looking with my needle-knit scarf that I just sort of gave up. I shouldn't let it get me down, though. We've all been beginners at some point lol.

Thanks,
Ari

I really need to invest in some STABILicers (yes, that is how you write that lol) which are rubber things you slip on over the soles of your boots or shoes that have little gromit-type things on the bottom for tracktion. My mobility instructor specifically recommended them over things like Yacktracks. He's originally from Maine, so I trust his recommendations. :)

I just cannot keep my knitting at a consistant tension, causing my scarf to come out all uneven and lumpy-looking. This is frustrating. I'm using aluminum needles, and I'm not sure if that's a help or a hinderance. Lol maybe I just don't want to admit how awful I am at this and am looking to lay the blame on equipment. I really want to fix this, though, because I've seen all sorts of interesting paterns and stuff, and I'd love to be able to make something that someone (namely my husband) wouldn't mind wearing. :) Also, it would be nice to have a portable craft that I can basically take anywhere that's not going to make my hands messy or be hard to put away at a moments notice.

Houses eat them you know and sometimes you break them in half. Well when I went to check everything out I had a nice person help me do the automated scanning and paying deal. I told him that since there was a lot of little stuff we could put some of it in my backpack. So when my four packages of plastic needles came up he said do you want these toothpicks in your backpack or in a bag with other stuff? I don’t know what to say without trying to laugh. I just said oh those blue things with the hole in the top? Those are the needles I was telling you could go in my backpack. He took it all in stride but it sure made my day. It’s not every day a blind person recognizes some thing a sighted person doesn’t especially when they can read the package.
