> The following announcements were issued by Jenine Stanley of AIRA on Monday, July 4 at the ACB National convention.
> The following consists of notes which I took during the Zoom session as I am attending the convention as a virtual participant.
>
> In the coming months we will be hearing more about employment and education on future episodes of the AIRACast podcast.
> How people are using AIRA in college settings
> AIRA for Desktop is a Web app that works on PC, Mac or iPad. You can connect to an agent without using your phone. You can also use it in tandem with your phone. Going to a limited public beta end of July. If you want the agent to be able to control your computer you will still need a third party app like TeamViewer but other options will be possible. However, if you just want to do a screen share the AIRA Desktop app will allow this. I pointed out to Jenine the frustrating accessibility regressions which we are seeing in TeamViewer. I have alerted TeamViewer about this but I asked if AIRA could perhaps engage in some advocacy work with TeamViewer to try and resolve some of these issues in case self-advocacy from users proves to be ineffective. She encouraged us to contact AIRA’s CEO about this by emailing him at troy at aira.io.
> Those interested in taking part in the beta program should visit https://www.aira.io/choice/ The site has a form to submit info so AIRA can contact you.
> The desktop app uses your laptop camera or camera connected to your monitor. You can also message an agent while on a call.
> She had a Blindshell Classic 2 phone with her. In the Vision Aids menu was a beta of the AIRA Explorer app installed on the device. She was demonstrating the app. We have options for Call an AIRA agent, which she did during the demo.
> We could hear Jenine talking with the agent and she asked the agent to identify a label on a bottle using the Blindshell.
> This uses the back facing camera on the phone.
> The Feedback area has more options where you can rate the agent as well as the app.
> AIRA should soon have a working beta on the ARX headset. The device has a camera, with bone conduction headphones.
> Regarding Envision AI: all she could say was stay tuned in August. My assumption is that this refers to the Envision glasses and not the Envision app.
> These beta tests are international.
> In the chat I asked a follow-up question. Would AIRA consider permitting full remote access with the desktop app considering the issues with TeamViewer but my question was not answered.
> The mobile app is in the process of being rewritten.
> Jenine demonstrated the desktop app using Chrome on a Mac. You can configure which microphone or camera you wish to use.
> She contacted an agent using the app but the audio from VoiceOver wasn’t consistently coming through. She did a screen share with the agent. The agent’s audio also didn’t come through on that particular demo.
> There will be a full demo of the app on AIRACast in a week and a half.
