Great Tracey,
I assume you are comfortable with 3 and 4 stitch cables, both front and
back?
Thanks,
Bernice

There's one other kind of cable needle that's a straight stick with notches
in it. The yarn lies in the notches. The J is good, and the stick is good.

This sounds like a neat project.
Tracy

I am very excited to share this Irish fisherman's knit pattern with you. It
is challenging, but worth it if you want to learn new stitches, and are
willing to practice to get them looking beautiful.

I plan to teach the kinds of cables one night and the 3 types of twist
stitches the other night.

I believe it would be worth doing some practice before plunging right into
the pattern.

There are several kinds of cable needles, and I find the j shaped cable the
easiest to work with. The other kind of cable is a strait needle with a
curved notch half way along the needle. My experience has been that your
stitches stay on the j shaped needle better.

You can get the cable needle in many thicknesses, but it doesn't have to
match your knitting needles exactly. The only rule is that you shouldn't
have a cable needle thicker than the needles you are working on.

This pattern lends itself best to a solid color.

I would also recommend that you buy 8 ounce skeins instead of many 4 ounce
skeins, because this pattern is harder to add a new thread. Of course, it
can be done, but I like my work to have as few breaks in the yarn as
possible.

After you sign up on line, I would find it helpful for planning my
instruction, if you could drop me a line to tell me about your cabling
experience.

I have made this afghan 2 times over the past 30 years, and I hope you will
be as excited as I am to make this wonderful afghan.

Bernice
