[NFB-Krafters-Korner] pollymer clay

I use polymer clay all the time. I find it easier than air dry clay, as you
don't have to paint it.

Polymer clay comes in so many colors, matte or gloss, sparkly, metallic and
so much more. The kits generally come with tools to cut with. I often use
silicon molds or free design my creations. Don't bake the clay in the
silicon molds, though. I just find these molds to be easy to remove the
clay.

When placing two or more different colors on one project, I use my
fingernail, or you may use a tool, then gently blend the colors where they
join. This will assist the clay to adhere to itself, as separate parts may
disconnect if they are not slightly blended at the edge to stay in place.

If you are wanting any findings, such as small hooks to place a chain or
string through afterwards, this needs to be added prior to baking the clay.
FIMO and Sculpty are the main brands of polymer clay and their directions
are similar, but double check for the directions. I never bake my creations
for more than about 15 minutes or so. IT really depends on the size of your
project.

I have a small baking sheet that is strictly for polymer clay. I usually
create on a clean surface, as the chemicals don't release until they are
baked. Any left over clay is kept in a Ziploc bag or small sealed
container. You don't want the clay to dry out and no longer become pliable.

Once removed from the oven, they are extremely hot and you won't want to
touch them until they are completely cooled. If any parts have fallen off
during the baking time, use clear glue to fasten it back on.

I hope this helps.

Hi all,

Has anyone on here had experience with polymer clay?

I use to do ceramics but can't do that now as I'm sure it's a bit
expensive-so am thinking of doing the polymer clay and making small things.

Thanks very much.
