I think, if you did this, you would need 2 balls of your border color.  You
would knit the border in color A up to the picture, change to color B for
the picture, then change back to A to finish the border on the other side of
the picture.  You would twist the 2 colors together at the back each time
you changed color, to prevent there being a hole.  You would only have a
strand where you added B and where you ended B, which would be ends you'd
have to weave in.

Hi Bernice,

You mentioned you use a different color when knitting the actual picture of
the square. When it is time to knit making the shape, is this where you
change to the second color? Does this leave strands of yarn in the back of
the square? I would like to try knitting a square using a dominat color for
the design. I have knitted several squares from Designs by Emily and enjoy
them.

Neat! 
I've made 2 picture blankets so far.  I really like them.  On the first, for
myself, I knit in 2 or 3 braille letters into the border of the picture,
enough so I could remember what the picture was, if it wasn't clear.  I just
purled a stitch instead of knitting.  I wrote con sign ch sign for the conch
shell, and cl for the clam--like that.
On the other, for my sister, I stacked up the finished squares and put a bit
of braille card on top of each, saying what it was.  I also wrote down the
colors of each, so I could arrange them when all the squares were done.

I hope you will tell us your colors and squares when you're done.

My senior brain is having trouble remembering who taught the nautical
afghan. I was thinking it was Sarah C, but now I think it was Yolanda. I was
wondering if there was a place to view pictures of the finished squares,
since my friend was having a little trouble identifying some of the
pictures. If I were to do an afghan like this again, I would make the
background one color and the picture a second color. My friend says I have 2
palm trees. 

I also found that the medium blue yarn I used must have been a bit thinner,
even though it said 4 ply, and had the same number. I am going to have to
pick up stitches on the 4 edges and make it a little bigger. I so hate, like
most people to pull anything out that I have finished. 

I always ask Alexa what color things are supposed to be, and she says that a
clam can be almost any color. Mine will be either purple or orange.
