The straw hat you made makes me think of the hat decoration I did many years
ago after a cousin made a family nest hat for my mother in law. It was a
wall hanging made using a straw hat. It was a family nest hat. I used the
hat and put fake straw in it and got some little plastic shaped egg pieces
and had the name of the mother, father and children written on each egg.
Then glued it to the fake straw. On the brim of the hat I used the real
small wooden letters and spelled out the name of the family like Jones and
on the next line family and the third line nest and then I put a string
through it and hung it on the wall. I put some ribbon around the edges of
the hat.  I also used a wire form candy cane to make a lighted wreath to
hang on my apartment door. It had garland, ribbons and bows, tiny Christmas
ornaments and battery operated lights on it.  I have made other things but
those were my favorite things.

In the past I have made afghans, place mats, dishcloths, Christmas
ornaments, pillows, plant hangers, items for on the walls and probably more
I can't think of.  One item I made for my wall was I took a straw hat and
glued lace around the outer edge. Then took matching ribbon and tied a bow
around the hat and glued on some matching flowers and then hung it on the
wall.

 

Did you know paper tole is the art of constructing a 3-dimensional image
from a 2- dimensional picture
