Subject: [NFB-Krafters-Korner] My intro, and, wanting to learn to crochet
Hello everyone,
My name is Terri, and I just recently joined this list. I didn't even know
it existed, in all honesty.
However, I did a Google search, and happened to find it. I am sure happy I
did.
Here is just a little about myself, so you all can kind of get to know
me, and what my reasons are for wanting to be here.
I am 47, and I live in Missouri. I am totally blind, and have been since
birth.
I live with my boyfriend, and my sweet, and loving senior cat, Kiki. I
absolutely adore her! She is actually next to me as I write this.
I am currently in college, trying to decide which career path I am going
to go down. I am currently in my first semester at a local community
college. I never in a million years thought I would try to go to college
again. Especially at my age. But also, because the first time was not
the best experience.
I was considering getting my degree in social work. But I am now
rethinking that decision for a number of reasons.
I am also learning how to play both the ukulele, and the piano. I am
loving learning both of them. It is a very slow process for me, though.
I take lessons at a local music store near my house, once a week. Then I
practice on my own, at least five days a week.
I have quite a bit going on. I love it all, and really feel I am very
lucky to be getting to do all of this. As if I am not busy enough, I
really would like to throw one more thing into the mix. LOL!
I am wanting to learn how to crochet. I have absolutely know idea even
where to start with it. I really have no experience with sewing, or
anything like that.
When I was in my teens, and in my early twenties, I did attempt to learn
how to thread a needle, and sew on a button.
However, I just couldn't ever seem to get the hang of it. So I
unfortunately didn't stick with it.
I am concerned about trying to remember the different patterns, and
motions I might need to make with my hands. I can get things like this
confused at times.
I hope this makes some sense?
I am very interested in learning though, and I feel I would stick with
it. I hear crocheting can be relaxing.
I am lucky that I do at least know what a crochet hook is. So that is at
least a good start. LOL!
What do you all think?
Is this something someone who is totally blind, can learn? Even if they
have zero experience?
I have very, very limited sighted assistance. So a lot of what I do,
will most likely be by trial, and error.
Any thoughts, and suggestions are much appreciated. I am excited to be a
part of this list. And, I look forward to hearing from you all.
Thank you,
Terri
