That sounds interesting!
When I was working, there was a lady that made earings and bracelets out of can tabs!
They were connected with colored rings, some how!
I got some for gifts for my nieces!

I would be afraid of the sharp edges on the tabs.
I collect them for Terri, for the Lions club!

I saw a bag made with poptabs from tin cans and a very smooth yarn.  It was a drawstring bag, but would not need to be.  I am wondering if anybody is familiar with such a bag.  You would have to save a lot of tabs, but the bag was very fun and attractive. I don't know what it should be called, but I bet there is a pattern on the internet.  I just wonder if somebody in this group has also come across such a bag.  The bag I saw was being carried by a college student who said her grandmother made it.
