[NFB-Krafters-Korner] Knitting gauge opinions

Oh, Tracy the yarn sounds lovely! What is the brand?

I have knit shawls with heavier weight, as a shawl isn't a fitted item like
a cardigan or sweater, getting gauge isn't as crucial.

The one thing I would do though is make sure I had plenty of extra yarn, a
good hank or two so I didn't come up short.

Subject: [NFB-Krafters-Korner] Knitting gauge opinions

I'm getting ready to knit a beautiful shawl. The yarn in the pattern is
lace, with size 1 (2.25 mm) needles. I don't want to use lace yarn. It's
so thin, I think it would be hard to work with. And really thin needles
hurt my hands. So I'm using fingering.

The pattern gives a gauge of 21 st = 4 inches with the lace yarn. I get the
right gauge with fingering and size 6 needles.

6 is really big for fingering, but the fabric feels OK and the gauge is
right, so I'm thinking I should go with that. I think that will make the
length come out right. It may be deeper than it would with the lace, but
that's fine.

Do any of you experienced knitters have an opinion?

The yarn I've chosen is a medium purple, 70% merino, 30% silk. It feels
lovely.

Tracy
