Hi Jean, so, where were you when Mom and I were making those patches. Big smile.

Hmm. Repairing broken horizontal bar of canvas. Thinking out loud here, maybe get some strong thread or a yarn and weave it from one intact vertical bar across to the next vertical bar or two. Tie it off snugly and then latch over it. It won't show. It only has to support one stitch, but should be secured to verticals left and right.

Hi Bernice, by "Cross String" do you mean the horizontal bar (going from the 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock position or the vertical thread? My Mom God Rest Her Soul showed me how to put a patch on the back over the split thread. It didn't show, and, was repaired.
Jean, any repair ideas?

I also have done many wall hangings. I have worked from kits and blank mats. I bought a device to cut my own yarn. You thread the yarn into it and keep on cranking. It cuts the yarn in even lengths of yarn. I also had an adjustable frame on 2 x frame legs. I think it must have gotten lost in a move, because I haven't seen it in many years.
I was making a hanging called a pot of daisies, and a cross string broke. Any suggestions on making a repair?
Bernice

Hi Jean,

I have made many latch hook wall hangings but not any for some years now. I am excited to hear about the sites you shared. Where do you get your yarn? Is it pre-cut yarn or do you cut your own?

I am not certain what size my squares are. Some of my patterns were purchased as a kit, so whatever the kits usually are, is what I use. I have run across bad canvas, strands breaking and sagging and that is no fun. That reminds me, do you purchase blank canvas for your projects, and if so where. I have mostly seen kits, not plain canvas and pre-cut yarn. The kits have pre-cut yarn but the colors are unsorted.

Many years back I taught a class on KK to make a puppy laying in the grass with flowers. Mine turned out well, but it was from a kit and the yarn was rather short, so it kept coming out of the squares at random places.
I had a pattern I made of an owl and it was from a braille book called row upon row by Marie Porter. It used two lengths of yarnm and was great for a textured pattern.
Enough babbling from me. Just excited to read of your latch hooking.

May God bless you.
