Hi Dixie, 
I have made Helment Liners for years. I use Cascade 220,wool,  I can make 2 Helment Liners from 1 Skein. Do you have a address that you can send the Helment Liners to? I don't have my contact anymore as the Knitting Store that was sending them after we Knitters had made them for the Troops closed. 
Any contact would be appreciated.

I disagree.  Acrylic can melt.  
The military won't accept acrylic for their helmet liners for just that reason.  The acrylic can melt and burn to skin.
I would suggest cotton or wool.  If you need super bulky, just used 2 strands of the cotton.

Sonya, you can use acrylic yarn for pot holders.  You just want to be sure it is not such large stitches that your finger can get to the hot pan. You also do not want much stretch in the yarn.   I have some pot holders made of acrylic that work just fine. Someone gave them to me. I have not made that kind, but it can work if you really want to make pot holders.
