[Nfb-kzoo] Update on Social Event

Hey Everyone,
Alright, things are falling into place, now we just need to start getting on the same page as to how exactly this thing will go down. First here is the financial information. I spoke with the owner of Roma's pizza, and he said the lowest he could go on pizzas was $6, which is what Hungry Howies was offering. However, he also stated that if I ordered the 35 pizzas (which is what we figured would be best, then he would supply everyone with free breadsticks. So I think this is a good deal. The bill for pizza and bread sticks will be $210. Beyond this, we will need Pop, Cups, Napkins, and Plates. Corda, do we still have plates from the other event that we had? We will probably need about 120 plates and cups. If not, then I would guess we could spend about 10 dollars on that stuff for a good supply. Pop we figured about 15, 2 liters would do, at 1.25 a piece this would be just shy of $19. So the maximum I estimate this will cost the NFB chapter will be $240.

Now, check the minutes for the process of payment, but that will work out in the end. We are thinking that it would be best to start the food handout at 7:00 and go until 9:30 or 10, depending on who is still there looking for food. Doug and Corda, your services may best be applied in transportation. We will need someone to pick-up the Pop, maybe from Sams club or Meijer, where ever is cheaper. (no payment at this point, just a ride, I'll workout the payment with the person who is able to get these things). The other is picking up the pizzas from Roma's. We can have them deliver, but I think that this is an extra cost that we probably don't need.

As many hands as possible would be great at the actual event, in order to hand out pizza and to just talk to people about the NFB. So with this in mind, it may be best, if you haven't turned in your volunteer form yet, to not volunteer for the evening shift of the tournament on that Saturday. If you have just let me know, and we'll see if we can do anything about it. Leanne and I are planning on staying until the end, so if anyone needs to leave before the end this should be okay, just as much time as can be given would probably be best, especially at the beginning.

As far as how we will promote, I think that it would be best to hand out Brochures, though JJ is right in that they may become napkins in the end. Still it is one avenue. I think that our talk with people should steer clear of philosophy and focus more around services i.e. free white cane, scholarship, etc. Most people are drawn in first by the services that are offered, and a lot of people are turned off quickly by clashing philosophies...this is something Matt and I discussed today. Is their anyone who can collect a large amount of those NFB brochures? I'm not sure where they came from in the first place, but we had them at the other event.

I think that we may schedule a short phone conference on monday night, just to make sure all is set. There are free phone conference services we can use.

This is all I can think of for now. Please write with your agreements, disagreements, concerns, ideas, questions, and plans. The smoother this thing flows, the better we as the NFB and as the Kalamazoo chapter look, so lets take pride in this and see what we can produce when we put some muscle into it.

I'd be really careful not to come off as pushy. That being said, handing out
brochures may be a good idea. Though handing them out with dinner will
probably just turn them into napkins.
At the tourney, stress that you don't need to be an NFB member to get the
food. Maybe give a one or two minute tops speech introducing the chapter,
mention a couple bullet points like free canes, scholarships, etc.
If I think of more ideas, I'll write in.
