I am both attaching and pasting below the minutes from our most recent meeting in September. Sorry I am getting these out so late.

Role call: Tyler Merren, Leanne Merren, Matt McCubbin, Rachel Bishop, John Searles, Gabe Guzman, J.J. Meddaugh

Membership dues: Matt McCubbin collected from Tyler, Leanne; everyone else said they will pay

Voting: Christine Boone and Tim Paulding said they would take a board position if a position is available

Elected board: Tyler Merren president, John Searles Vice, Leanne Merren secretary, Matt McCubbin treasurer, Rachel Bishop board member, J.J. Meddaugh board member, and Gabe Guzman board member

Tyler shared that he would like a little more support from other chapter members in the future. The group discussed being accountable to each other in carrying through with what needs to be done.

Meet the Blind month: Nikki was heading that up and she was not present so that discussion was tabled

Michigan Vision Expo: J.J. put together the event to showcase different vendors and other helpful information for people who are blind. The event is planned for October 1, 2011 at the Kalamazoo Public Library. J.J. asked for some help running a table for the NFB. Gabe offered to help; J.J. said he thinks Tim would be there as well. J.J. was able to secure a great location for the event with the non-profit status of the NFB chapter. J.J. asked about literature, and it was determined that it is either at Christine Boone's house or the Merren house. TYLER SHARED THAT CONNECTING IT WITH A GOALBALL EVENT OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA FOR THE FUTURE.

MPVI (Michigan Parents of Visually Impaired) Retreat: Tyler shared that he would be going to teach goalball and fitness, Leanne is heading up child care for babies and toddlers, and Matt is going to volunteer as needed. The group discussed how important it is for parents to see blind adults at these functions, to see them living independently. The retreat happens once a year and others are encouraged to volunteer

State Convention: Tyler and Leanne attended the state board meeting in August in Kalamazoo. Tyler said he is planning to teach fitness of some kind at the convention. Leanne offered to help with child care. Question was raised about a social event for Friday night. Ideas were karaoke night, bingo, talent show, bowling, goalball, jeopardy, blooper games, Family Feud. The group felt that keeping everyone on sight would probably be best so transportation would not have to be arranged. The group decided that a Family Feud game would be fun. Matt and Rachel offered to put together survey questions. Charge would be $5 per person to get in to play.

Meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted by Leanne Merren
