[NFB-Muslims] Emergency Meeting

As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu brothers and sisters in
Islam,

As you may already be aware, the NFB Muslims Group had a great time during
the NFB national convention. Unfortunately, there were some events that
occurred which have deeply concerned many members, including myself.

Although I have recently stepped away from the group due to these issues, it
has recently come to me that members of the NFB Muslims group wishing to
discuss issues pertaining to the group, it's place within the federation,
and the subject of diversity have been pushed into silence. This is not the
way of the federation as it does not shy away from such topics.

I have been made aware that some members have requested an emergency meeting
to take place before the monthly meeting being held in August, however, they
have been told this will not happen. There are many chapters and divisions
within the federation which allow for members of these groups to call for a
special meeting when needed. This clause is written in many constitutions.
Because the NFB Muslims Group is an informal group, members have the right
to hold their own meeting if needed.

It is deeply concerning to me that leaders within this organization would
not only ignore the needs of it's members, but actively work to silence
them, especially one who was highly disrespected. As a former leader within
both this group and the federation, if there is enough need to have an
emergency meeting regarding concerns relating to the issues before and
during convention, I will be more than willing to provide you the
opportunity to voice your concerns and forward your thoughts to the
appropriate parties within the federation.

I would like to emphasize that this will not be a NFB bashing session as I
am still a member of the organization and believe in it's mission. This
meeting will be one that focuses on the issues and ensures that all members
voices are heard.

As a member of the newly formed International Network of Blind Muslims, I am
considering postponing our first business meeting if needed as I realize the
importance of addressing the concerns of the NFB Muslims Group and it's
members. If you would like to participate in this session please reach out
to me as soon as possible.
