So now the same group is trying to gather all the resources for every faith tradition in to a data base with well known documentation of that faith tradition's views on disability with in that faith tradition. This group has grown across the country mashallah.

Many of the articles are even written by the differently abled members with in their faith traditions. It is a collective narrative of how each faith tradition acknowledges persons with the disability and how the faith tradition chooses how it promotes inclusion with the differently abled individuals.

Most of the articles do come from the Jewish/Christian faith traditions. I am seeking to find any scholarly articles within our own Islamic tradition that can explain how disability plays a roll in our Islamic faith tradition. I have not come across any major works on this subject, Islam and disability as a major theme. Or have I come across someone who has a disability explaining about how Islam has affected them to acknowledge how their faith tradition supports them despite their disability.

I want to note their site is knew and they are also looking for feedback on the accessibility of the sight with screen-reader users.

To often, I was the only Muslim in the room with a disability at these conferences, last time it went up to 3 persons for which the other 2 went back home to their country.

I feel really disheartened that our Islamic communities do not care about disability within our faith tradition and it really says something when a Catholic priest has to speak for us because we are not at the table to discuss the intersectionality of faith and disability within the Islamic tradition. The Reverend Father did do a good job based on what he knew and he did say that it was not a first hand interpretation and he told us where to try to find out more. I want to add it was well, contact the local masjid. I was kind of cringing from that statement, that is the last place I would ever go to ask about disability issues within the Islamic community!

I believe it would have been better if our own imams and Shaikhs were actually the ones who were their to answer the questions on this subject. Especially for the question and answer sessions.

I did try to ask them to come, no one responded; that is just another signal that disability is not considered as a note worthy topic of discussion and was not worth their time. Or they did not have the knowledge being sought.

So if anyone has these scholarly articles, please can you provide it inshallah. Please provide the Chicago formatted citation; not just something the uncles wrote. Please make sure it is something you have read and you would not mind sharing. You are representing yourself as a Muslim to the entire interfaith network on disability community. So if someone has a question, be prepared to have some answers!

https://disabilitytheologyresources.com/

Jazak Allahu khaira

fee amanAllah

sister Heather
